Activism & Social Justice (Program 8)

Activism & Social Justice shows youth engaged in
creating a better society by focusing on fairness,
respect and values.
North Star Academy — When the deaf and hard of hearing students at North Star Academy grew tired of poor service, rude comments, unsafe actions and general difficulty in receiving quality service from restaurants in their community, they decided that something needed to be done!
Sting Cancer — This group of students from Preble High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, takes activism to a personal level. Heading out into the community, they take care of those who have been touched by cancer. Doing everything from raking leaves to hosting benefit dances, the youth in Sting Cancer are easing the stress experienced by those struggling with this deadly disease.
Rebuilding New Orleans — Twin brothers William and Patrick Stoudt saw a need in their home of New Orleans, a need that city government, state government, and federal government officials seemed unwilling or unable to fulfill. These two youth have organized anywhere from 20-400 people to empty houses of debris and get families back on the road to rebuilding their homes.
